Andrew's Hockey Game

Saturday was a big day in the Mushett household in regards to its favorite sport - hockey. Andrew had his game which was moved from Mariucci Arena to Ridder Arena (the women's rink at the U). He was bummed about not getting to play at Mariucci, but then he thought about how many Olympians have played on the Ridder rink and he was pretty excited.

His team won 4-2 and Andrew scored an empty net goal to seal the win. The funny part though was Andrew intercepted a shot from his teammate that was heading toward the goal and shot it in himself. :) Actually, although it was funny and he felt he needed to apologize, it was a smart play because if the puck missed the goal, it would have been icing. Here is the video of Andrew's goal (excuse the poor videography and the commentary!)

Then that night, Notre Dame upset Michigan State and advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four in Denver. Since Andrew is obsessed with Notre Dame hockey, you can only imagine how excited he is. He is still trying to figure out how he is going to get out there, but knowing him, he will make it happen.
The only other news from the weekend is that I have pink eye, strep throat and a double ear infection. Now I understand why kids cry so much when they get these things. I have not had an ear infection since I was seven. They are the most painful things. Just horrible. I am home today trying to get better.

We are supposed to get 6-10 inches of snow today. Ugh. Is summer ever going to come?

WaterPark of America

Reagan went to the WaterPark of America this past weekend with her friends Jake and Eli. She had a great time and couldn't get enough of the slides. I am surprised that she did not want to go down the 10-story slide, although both mom and dad managed to do it. She also liked the lazy river with the Bear that you passed each time around and she had a good time in the wave pool. Here are some photos from the visit.

Dancing With The Stars - Week 2

Well, I am 2-for-2 on my predictions as to who will get kicked off the show. Last night was Penn and Monica (they were both not very good and Monica had such a defeatist attitude - not something that I would expect from a multiple-time Grand Slam champion that looked so beautiful). Anyway... it was not a big surprise that these two were the first to go.

A review of Monday night ... Kristi was great again and is definitely the one to beat. Jason Taylor was extremely hot and secured his spot in the final two. Mario was good, as well as Marlee. Shannon Elizabeth was much improved and was what I expected from her in the beginning, while Pricilla was good too. The rest were horrible.

Here is my predicted order of finish again. I feel pretty good about it although I think Adam, Steve, Hairspray girl and Christian are interchangable. Adam might stay around because Julianne is a fan favorite and he is pretty funny. Christian and Cheryl might have a tough time since no one knows who he is and people are pretty down on Cheryl right now since the gossip about her alledged affair with Drew Lachay came out. Marissa is really trying and might get the sympathy vote, while Steve is charming but bad. The only other changes I see in my initial predicted order of finish is that Pricilla might go before Marlee. Marlee is truly amazing!

Week 1: Penn and Monica
Week 2: Adam
Week 3: Christian
Week 4: Hairspray girl
Week 5: Steve
Week 6: Marlee
Week 7: Pricilla
Week 8: Shannon
Week 9: Mario
Second Place: Jason Taylor
Champion: Kristi Yamaguchi

Reagan's Love Triangle

My best friend Holly and her family came to visit us this weekend from Athens, Ohio. Holly and her husband, Craig, have two boys - ages 3 1/2 and 1 1/2. With Reagan being right in the middle of the two of them, we were looking forward to seeing them play together.

Little did we know that we would have an instant love connection between the three of them as they all played together non-stop the entire weekend - at least until Reagan got mad at Eli for playing with her Maggie Simpson toy and she nailed him with her pacifier! I was horrified to say the least, but looking at the positives a day later, it was a strong throw and right on target (the first signs she is going to be an Olympic softball pitcher!)

Reagan is going to have a hard decision to make - does she choose the mature older brother or go dangerous with the younger brother? Either way, both mommies will be happy since we have been trying to figure out our entire lives how we could live closer to each other and become related. This could be it!!!!

Easter In Minnesota

Why do we live in this state? This is what poor Reagan had to endure during her first-ever Easter Egg hunt on Saturday at church. Of course, I thought it was going to be indoors because of the weather and so she was not dressed properly - bad mom! Anyway... she never complained and had a great time trying to find the eggs - even having to dig in 8 inches of snow. Enjoy!

Happy Easter!

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter. Here is Reagan's picture with the Easter bunny. She was scared of him once again, but by the end, I was able to get her to give him a high five at least.

I also wanted to tell the story of the dress she is wearing. That dress was actually made by my grandma and my mom gave it to me for Reagan to wear. It is absolutely beautiful and we had a number of people comment on it when we were at the mall. It has beautiful lace detailing on the top and then is a sheer green material on the bottom.

Reagan's great grandma and cousin Amy are coming tonight to visit and watch her on Good Friday since Marcy and Gary have that day off. Then my best friend Holly Raffle-McCarthy and her family are coming on Saturday for spring break. Reagan is so excited to play with Jake and Eli. We cannot wait to have our friends and family here!

Oh...we are also supposed to get a bunch of snow tomorrow. I defintely made sure that it will happen since I washed my car this morning. March in Minnesota. You have to love it.

Happy Easter once again.

Dancing With The Stars - Season 6; Week 1

After six months of waiting, Dancing with the Stars finally was back on the air. The season got off to a great start last night with the professionals' opening dance. They were incredible. After that, I was really fired up for the night. Unfortunately, my excitement did not last long as the celebrity dancers did not live up to my expectations.

After last season, and seeing how good everyone was in Week 1, I was hoping to see more of the same this time, but much to my disappointment that did not happen. Honestly, there were only four people who I thought did well - Jason Taylor, Mario, Pricilla Presley and Kristi Yamaguchi - and only Kristi Yamaguchi was great.

Here is a quick recap of the stars and their first dances:

Penn Gillettte - awkward...he looked liked a bumbling giant although I was glad they did add some magic into the act. He will not be around long and maybe even gone the first week.

Jason Taylor - Of course I waited six months to see him and my dog decided that he needed to go out right when he danced and just could not wait. I missed the whole thing and had to watch it on You Tube this morning. He was better than I thought he would be, but he is absolutely gorgeous so he will stay around for a long time.

Mario - It was a hip-hop Cha-Cha. He can move, but he needs to develop the ballroom style and not depend on his hip hop moves. Even though he is unknown by the fans, he is personable and attractive. He will be around for a while.

Steve Guttenburg - He was bad, but he has this great personality and is truly excited to be there. He will stick around for a few weeks - maybe by week 4 or 5 he will be gone.

Christian - Good looking, but just average in dancing. No one knows who he is so he might be one of the first to go, but I think because he was not terrible and his looks, he will stick around a little longer than the first week.

Adam Carolla- Terrible...and he confirmed my whole conspiracy theory plot when he said they would be voted off soon so that Julianne could promote her country album come April. The problem is Julianne is such a fan favorite that I think people might vote for them just so they can see her. Here is where the conspiracy theory will prove true. One awkward moment in the show was when they asked Helio how he felt about Julianne dancing with someone else. His answer was very weird.

Shannon Elizabeth - She was OK, but I really expected more from her. She will be on for a long time, but she needs to get better. She is very pretty and he long legs will buy her some votes.

The Hairspray girl - She has a lot of energy, but she really did not get to show off much of her dancing ability. I think she will become a fan favorite because of her spunk and her non-size 2 body.

Monica Seles - She got the lowest scores of anyone. I thought they scored her too low as she was not as bad as they said, but she is definitely going to be the first woman to go. She looked scared to death - like a deer in the headlights. She did look absolutely beautiful.

Kristi Yamaguchi - There is no doubt that she is going to win. She was beautiful, graceful and very elegant - just like when she skated. I also think that everyone has heard of her and will be a very popular choice. I could live with that as it is very obvious that they are trying to get a female winner this year based on the lack of talent on the men's side.

Marlee Matlin - She was absolutely beautiful and did amazing considering she cannot hear the music. I think she will stick around for a while.

Pricilla Presley - She was the surprise of the night. She was elegant and really very good. She even looked OK tonight - which is saying a lot since I think she had too much collagen injected into her face. I think people wanted her to do well and she did. She might stick around a lot longer than I originally thought she would.

Here is my predicted order of finish as of week 1 - the top people will be the first to go with the champion at the bottom.

Week 1: Penn and Monica

Week 2: Adam

Week 3: Christian

Week 4: Hairspray girl

Week 5: Steve

Week 6: Marlee

Week 7: Pricilla

Week 8: Shannon

Week 9: Mario

Second Place: Jason Taylor

Champion: Kristi Yamaguchi

Reagan Joins Marcy's Munchkins

If you read my last post, you saw there was some drama concerning Reagan's daycare last week. Unfortunately, Reagan had to leave Alana and her old daycare. It was a sad day for everyone because Reagan really loved Alana and all of her school friends. There were days when I thought she was happier at daycare than at home! Alana did a really great job in looking after Reagan and treated her like she was her own daughter. We will miss her and her family so much, but I am sure that Reagan will still have play dates with her friends Zach and Kylie. Thank you for everything Alana if you happen to read this!

After a mad scramble Friday and Saturday, we placed Reagan in a new daycare called Marcy's Munchkins. It is run by a husband and wife who have been in business for almost 20 years and is located in Eagan. It is very education-based, which is great for Reagan because I think she is ready to take that next step, but they still do their fair share of playing (they were going to build a snowman today after I left). The do an educational curriculum on the computer and they said that all of their daycare kids have been able to read before they went to kindergarten.

We are really excited about Reagan's new situation and happy we were able to find something that should be really great on such short notice. Thank you to Marcy and Gary for taking Reagan into their daycare family!

Each month, Marcy and Gary do a newsletter for the parents and above was the one to welcome Reagan to the group.

Reagan Goes To Arizona

I apologize for being a slacker on updating Reagan's blog and her trip to Arizona to visit Grandma Vicki and Grandpa Rick. I forgot my photo cable in Minnesota, and then once we got back, there was all sort of mad drama so thank you for being patient.

We had a great time while we were in Arizona. When we left Minnesota it was -1. When we arrived in Arizona at 9 a.m., it was 61 and people were complaining that it was cold. We were thrilled to say the least. Reagan was a perfect traveler once again. I think people are amazed because does not make a peep when we are on the plane - thank you Strawberry Shortcake.

Since I am so far behind in my updates, I will just do a day-by-day summary in this one post. I am sure it will be long, but I was able to take some great photos while we were out there.

Day 1- We Arrive And The First Stop Is In And Out Burger!

Our first stop once we landed was at In and Out Burger. Nothing like eating at In and Out Burger at 10:30 a.m. (and of course it was packed). Reagan had never eaten an In and Out Burger before, but she loved it just like her parents do. She was a big fan of the french fries as you can see.

We then went to "Grandpa's house" and took a nap before going swimming. She liked the water, although she would not get in the water the rest of the trip for some strange reason. She just liked running around the pool deck and tanning in the chairs - kind of like her Mom. Mom, Dad, Grandpa and Uncle Wayne then went to the Coyotes-Canadians hockey game, after going to this great restaurant that had 300 beers on tap, while Reagan stayed and played with Grandma.

Day 2 - Frank Lloyd Wright and Baseball Game #1

Reagan and Grandma got to play more, while Mom, Dad and Grandpa went to the Frank Lloyd Wright House. We did not take the tour since it was $32 each, but we were still able to see a lot of the place from the outside. It was a great stop. We then went to watch the Giants play the A's and walk around Olde Town Scottsdale before going out for fish dinner with all the family and friends. It was a gorgeous day, although sitting in the sun was a little rough for us "northerners." Andrew went to bed a 8 p.m. :)

Day 3 - Play, Play And More Play Before Going To The Zoo

After starting the day at the park, we then took Reagan to the zoo. She had a good time feeding the ducks and giraffes (look at that tongue - how gross). I was shocked she was not scared of the giraffe since she hates any mascot we see, but she stood right in there and fed him. He even licked her hand! We also saw a lot of birds and monkeys and the new white tiger babies, which were cute. We then had a family BBQ which with my aunt and uncle and cousins which was a lot of fun. I do not get to see my family, outside of my Mom and Dad, much so it was great to catch up with them even if it was only for a short time. Reagan was a bundle of energy that night and finally went to sleep around 10 p.m.

Day 4 - The Beginning Of The End...Baseball Game #2, Family and Illness

After church, Mom, Dad and Reagan went to see the Angels play the Rangers. It was a perfect day (only one cloud in the sky!). After that, we went over to Andrew's aunt and uncle's house where Reagan played with her cousin Cole, who is 12. They played with Misty, read books, blew bubbles and played with letter puzzles. Unfortunately, Reagan did not nap during the day and had a major meltdown about 7 p.m., causing us to run out of the house - so sorry Dennis, Tricia and Cole. Reagan had a rough night and looked to be getting sick as she kept grabbing at her ears and crying. It was really great to see Dennis and Tricia and Cole and only wished we could have stayed longer. Tricia and I did not even get to talk about Young & The Restless!

Day 5 - A Trip To Urgent Care
Reagan was definitely sick as she had pink eye and so what vacation would be complete without a trip to urgent care (parents, I am sure you can relate). She actually had a sinus infection that was coming out of her eyes and nose. After a few antibiotics and some eye drops, she was good to go again. After some shopping in the afternoon, Grandpa, Dad and Mom went to see the Rangers play the Padres in a night game which was a lot of fun.

Day 6 - Back Home To Reality And Cold, Cold Weather
Our flight was not until 7 p.m., but we really wanted to get home sooner so we decided to leave on a 1 p.m. flight. Andrew and my dad played a round of golf, while Grandma and I took Reagan to see the Easter Bunny and went shopping. We got on the earlier flight and made it back to Minnesota in time to pick up Corby before the 8 p.m. bewitching hours. I am sure they were happy to get rid of him. Reagan was perfect again and I think she was just glad to get home. She was still feeling a little puny and so she was going to have to stay home from daycare the next day anyway... that was probably a good thing, but more on that in another post.

We had a wonderful time and wished we could have stayed longer. Every time we visit there, it is never long enough. There are just so many things to do that time of the year and Grandma and Grandpa treat Miss Reagan so well. Andrew and I just love it, and he actually admitted that he could retire there for 6 months out of the year. It is really a great place.

Thank you to Grandma and Grandpa for everything while we were there. It was also nice to see both of our families since we do not get to do that very often.
