Winter Wonderland

Here are some photos of Reagan playing outside at Great Grandma's. She had a blast. Here are also some photos of Corby. He, too, was in heaven.

Our Little Musician

I don't know how this can be happening, but I think Reagan might be more into arts than sports. That is near impossible in our house, but each day, we keep seeing more and more of this unique behavior.

As everyone knows, she loves to color, color, color. She has received many markers, crayons and coloring books for Christmas thus far and that will never be enough to make it through the year.

She also loves to dance as Dancing With the Stars is one of her favorite TV shows and she knows every move in the latest Wiggles video. She is a master of Running Up The Sandhills...those who have kids know exactly what I am talking about.

And now we have noticed that she is drawn to music, especially the organ (her Auntie Crystal will be very proud). Here is a photo of her playing that organ at her Great Grandma's house. Look at the hand positioning...it is almost perfect.

Maybe it is just a phase as she still knows that when the horn goes off, a goal has been scored in hockey and the Vikings are trying to score touchdowns! We will keep you updated.

Sledding at Great Grandma's

It is Christmas Eve and we finally made it to Great Grandma's after a snowstorm delayed our trip by a day. Great Grandma got a foot of snow, while we only got three inches in the Cities, but it was windy, windy so we decided that it would be better to wait. Probably a good idea since the Vikings were on last night and I got a little upset at their pitiful performance. Didn't really want to be around anyone. Anyway....

Reagan went sledding for the first time today. The snow was too deep to really sled, but we still had fun. She didn't like keeping her mittens on, making it a fast trip outside. She had a grea time which was capped off by daddy doing a big face plant in the snow when he tried to sled down the hill. The sled didn't really move and neither did daddy.

Hope everyone has a great holiday. We will be heading back to Minneapolis tomorrow afternoon since Santa is coming to our house later in the day to visit Reagan. Isn't that nice that he still is going to drop her presents off at home even though she will not be there until later. Great guy that Santa.

Merry Christmas From Reagan

December 2007

I cannot believe it is that time again. I remember writing my first Christmas letter last year and how proud mommy was of my efforts. Now being a whole year older, and having a much broader vocabulary (I talk all the time and definitely take after my mom in that respect), I am definitely feeling the pressure of my second attempt, looking to avoid the sophomore slump.

Since the world is all about me (I personally hope that never changes), let me tell you about myself. I turned 2 on November 1 (although I tell everyone I am 9 – how fast we grow). I am 36 inches tall and only 25 pounds. I am tall and skinny – very model-like (I can hear my mom cursing me under her breath as I write this!). In my spare time, I like to build with blocks, watch movies (Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Strawberry Shortcake and The Wiggles are my favorites) and "color, color, color" on my art desk.

I also love to watch hockey with my daddy. Every time the Blue Jackets score, I yell "Goooooal" and then pump my fist! Of course, hockey was my first word which made daddy very, very proud. I also have my TV time with mommy as we had a weekly date watching Dancing with the Stars. My favorites were Helio and Julianne – or maybe they were mom’s. It was fun to dance in front of the television every Monday as mommy and daddy laughed.

My life is still a constant sporting event. There are so many people who would be jealous of all the games I have been to this year. I went to three Notre Dame football games (although I am not sure anyone would be jealous of that), a number of baseball games (including Spring Training in Arizona), too many NBA games (the worst), lots of WNBA games (which are great because I get a whole row to myself), and, of course, my favorite games – hockey. I also went to mommy’s pro tennis tournament, lots of college volleyball and basketball games and the horse races.

The highlight of the year was when I saw my namesake Brady Quinn at the Notre Dame Spring Football Game. He didn’t play with my feet this time, but he did give me a big smile and a high five. You will notice that daddy had to get in the picture with us too, and of course, no mommy! She was pretty sad about that, but at least she now has a photo of three of her favorite people in the house, on her desk at work, in her room …I’ll stop there. It is kind of embarrassing.

I traveled a lot this year, going to Phoenix, Dallas, Wisconsin, Illinois and three trips to South Bend. It is a good thing that I love my DVD player and can watch that for 8 hours straight if need be.

Mommy and daddy are good. They are still with the USTA and Thomson West, respectively. Mommy won the Ace Award for her company this year, which was pretty cool. Daddy got another promotion in the middle of the year. They are both doing stats for the various sports teams in the Twin Cities, although it is getting harder to balance all of it. Mommy is still playing tennis (although not very well) and Daddy started taking adult hockey lessons in the fall. He is really enjoying it and has not gotten hurt yet. Games start in February so we will see how he does then. Corby (who is 3 ½) is doing fine too. He is a good dog and loves his Wednesdays at daycare – so do mommy and daddy as they get a little break from their super high-maintenance puppy dog (can you tell he is 140 pounds in the photos?).

Mommy and daddy also went to the US Open for the first time this year. They were there for the women’s semifinals, the men’s doubles final and the men’s quarterfinals. They were joined by their Notre Dame friends, which made for a great trip to New York City. They are looking forward to going again in 2008. They also have trips planned to Texas, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Ohio, Spokane and Notre Dame. Good thing I like to travel.

One sad event I would be remiss without mentioning is the Minneapolis bridge collapse in August. Since mommy and daddy travel that bridge often, I was happy August 1 did not happen to be one of those days. It was truly a miracle that so few people died that day, especially if you saw where the bridge once stood. It just left you speechless.

I miss all of you. Here’s hoping that 2008 is the best one yet. I can’t wait to see all of you again!

Meeting With The Sugar Plum Fairy

Reagan is really starting to get into this Christmas thing. She loves the "pretties" (lights) in our house and makes sure we turn them on as soon as she gets up in the morning. She starts at the bannister, and then goes to the tree and then to the snowman. She also has a tree in her room that must be on when she goes to sleep at night.

She also likes presents and wants to open them all the time. We cannot leave anything wrapped and under the tree or it will not stay that way for long. She is also learning that Santa says "Ho, Ho, Ho," although she wants to be as far away from him as possible.

On Saturday, we went to see the Macy's Downtown Display, which was the Nutcracker this year. It was absolutely beautiful and Reagan really liked it a lot. She also liked the cookies at the end!

Here are some photos from the exhibit.

Helio Wins Crystal Ball and Julianne?

I was pretty excited when Helio won Dancing With The Stars. He was the best of the final three (not better than Cheetah Girl, but then again she was/is a professional dancer) and deserved to win. Maks and Scary were good, but in a different way. The right person won, although I wish a woman would win sometime. Maybe next year with Maks.

I do have to admit to a funny story as I had intently watched all season and saw the first 115 minutes of the finale before falling asleep right before they announced the winner. Can you believe that? I woke up 15 minutes later and was so upset I had missed the end, I had to rush to the computer to see who won. Thankfully, abc.com runs the show online and I was able to see the end and Helio's victory the next day.

But then there was the bigger "news" about Helio breaking off his engagement (Read all about it at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22011557/). Is there something brewing between him and Julianne. I always had my suspicions starting with Helio's Rascal Flatts surprise to Julianne about three weeks ago. In that segment, they show a card he wrote to her sitting on a chair and it said "Love, Helio." I could see where my fiancee might get a little upset with that.

Then there was the kiss two weeks ago where Julianne looked totally shocked and surprised before being dropped hard to the ground. You noticed that kiss was not part of the encore routine. Hmmm. Then the kiss Tuesday night? Friends don't kiss each other like that. I don't even kiss my husband like that! Hmmmm...

Couple that with the fact that Helio ended his engagement two weeks ago which would have been right after the first kiss....Hmmm.

Anyway...they are cute so good for them. I still have a hard time believing that she is only 19.

Can't wait until next year. I just hope Marie Osmond is not part of the show in any way shape or form. She was so annoying the entire season. I am just not so sure why it took America so long to see it.

Here Comes Santa Claus!

Here is a photo of when Reagan went to see Santa last week. Of course, she was scared of him so we had to visit twice. Good thing I went before Thanksgiving when people aren't thinking about seeing Santa (Question: Since when has Santa been in the mall before Thanksgiving anyway? I thought Santa came on his sleigh at the end of the Macy's Parade and then he was at the Mall?)

The first time we stood in line (only for 15 minutes), Reagan fell asleep right before it was her turn. I woke her up (which was a mistake) and she would not let me put her down at all. I should have let her sleep and she could have taken her photo like that - it would have been quieter anyway. The second time, she at least played with the books after a brief crying fit. Santa snuck in behind her so we could get a decent photo (meaning no tears).

Maybe next year, there will be a smile.

Tales From the Potty

Reagan is really getting into this potty thing...well kind of. Tonight she took a magazine in there with her and read it as she went "potty." She still will not take her jeans off or actually go when she is sitting on there, but she must have been watching her dad at some point, as she has the finer points of the bathroom mastered. (Should I be offended she is reading Tennis Life Magazine where I write all of the articles?)

She also discovered toliet paper yesterday. Once she finished going "potty," she wiped and put it in the real potty. I thought that was pretty good.

Of course, when she first figured out that the toliet paper roll spins, she started to use the whole thing. She finally learned to tear a little off and not the whole roll - or so I thought. As I walked into the bathroom tonight, the new roll of toliet paper I put on this weekend was "gone." Of course, I lifted up the lid on the potty and here is what I found! Ugh!

At least she knows that once she is done, she needs to wash her hands and dry them on a towel. Little victories!

Helio should win!

As disappointing as tonight's Dancing With the Stars was, there is no doubt that Helio and Julianne should win. They were far and away the best couple tonight, even with Helio's bad footwork in dance one. Their dances were cute and entertaining and really showed off both Helio and Julianne's personalities. Nothing again Helio, but I am pretty sure Julianne would win with any person she was paired with, except maybe Master P, Kenny Mayne or Tucker Carlson. She is just that much better than everyone else.

I was really disappointed in the other two couples. Scary and Maks were only OK. Maks was outstanding, but their second dance was not good at all. I was expecting way more. Marie and her partner were blah like normal. I liked their second dance that the judges totally bashed, but it certainly was not the dance to leave a vivid "vote for me" final impression. It was like they knew that technique-wise and difficulty-wise they could never pull that off so they added the rag-doll bit to gain a free pass. It didn't work.

I also was glad that Maks called Marie out on People.com about using her tragedies to gain votes and remain in the competition. He only confirmed my conspiracy theory.

Looking forward to tomorrow night and hopefully seeing Helio and Julianne hoist the disco ball.

Dancing Finale

Tomorrow is the big day - the final dances. I was really disappointed last week to hear that Jennie Garth was the one to go. I thought she had the best dance of the night, as her second dance was really great. It was fun to see her improve.

At least Helio is still in. I have to believe that he is the favorite. He and Julianne are amazing. I love his smile and she is just the best dancer I have ever seen. I also look forward to seeing Maks. He looked and danced great last week. It is time for Marie to go. She should be the first one on Tuesday night.

The Dancing with the Stars tour is coming to Minneapolis January 3. I doubt I will go since I am not excited about the dancers they have coming, but who knows. No Maks or Julianne so far. No good celebrities either. Sabrina would be fun to see again.

Anyway...we will see what happens this week. Go Helio!

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Sorry for the delay in updating this. Reagan's mom has been pretty busy the past two weeks (and I was even on vacation all of last week). I finished my last major work project of the year (yea). We have been working an endless number of events this week and Reagan has been sick - not to mention Thanksgiving and shopping.

We went to The Spurrs again for Thanksgiving. Bob and Elaine are like my surrogate parents here since we are so far away from our real families. It was great and we really appreciate going there each year. We provide the turkey each year and Elaine cooks it. It is a great deal for us and we always have the best meal there. It is nice of them to let us crash their family thanksgiving.

We also saw or worked our share of sporting events last week with the Gopher women playing Sunday and Tuesday, the T-Wolves on Wednesday and Saturday and the Wild on Friday.

Reagan has been struggling with a virus of some kind. She feels fine, then has a fever of 104 and then after a shot of Tylenol feels fine before the fever comes back again. It is really strange. Hopefully we can get it under control soon.

Andrew is sick too. So far I have avoided it (knock on wood).

Here are a few photos from Thanksgiving and the Timberwolves/Cavs game where LeBron was awesome. We sat in $200 seats (six rows from the court and right by Adrian Peterson of the Vikings). Even so...it was the most boring game ever. The NBA is awful.

Now starts the long process of getting my Christmas stuff up. We did the lights outside today, as well as the bannisters. Next will be the kitchen and other rooms before we end with the tree next weekend.

Jennie Garth Might Have To Go

Tonight was a mixed bag for me when it came to Danicng With the Stars. Helio was great and really showed once again that he is the person to beat, while Jennie Garth did not do so well. Even though she had the third-best overall score, I think she might be the one going home. She just lacked the charm she usually has and really did look like she doesn't believe that she is a good dancer. Plus anyone who gets so emotional from a pep talk given by Richard Simmons makes me wonder.... She is my girl, though, so that would make me sad if she went home, but at least I still have Helio.

In the first round of dances, only Helio and Julianne stood out. They did a paso doble that was pretty good - definitely deserved 9s across the board. Maks and Mel were the second best and then everyone else was blah.

The second round was much of the same, but Helio and Julianne were awesome. They did a quickstep that might have been the best dance of the year by any couple. It was awesome and the kiss that Helio planted on Julianne just before the end of the dance ... hmmm. She looked a little surprised that he did that, so I have to wonder if that was planned or not. In any event, it was awesome and makes them the clear leaders going into the semifinals. Can you believe there is only two weeks to go?

Otherwise, the show was really uneventful. Everyone had clothes on tonight so Andrew was disappointed about that. I do have to say that I really enjoy watching Maks dance. He looks like he is having fun this season and Scary Spice allows him to be in the spotlight much more. I think she is an above average dancer, but it is Maks that makes that couple good. It is very refreshing to see a male professional make it so far since a woman has not won the title since the disputed first season with Kelly Monaco and Mr. Peterman.

I personally think Marie should be the one going home, but I am sure she will get the sympathy vote again tonight due to the death of her father and the tears Donnie was shedding after Marie's first dance. She also played the sympathy card tonight so I am sure she can't go home. I did enjoy the "I'm a little bit country tribute" she did. It reminded me when I would watch Donnie and Marie every Saturday night and the highlight of the night was the "I'm a little bit country/I'm a little bit rock n roll" segment. I was always a big fan of the rock-n-roll tribute, which is pretty funny since I love country music now.

We will see what happens, but my order right now is Helio, Scary, Jennie, Cameron and Marie. Until tomorrow night...

p.s. - next week is going to feature Michael Flatley (Lord of the Dance) and Cheetah Girl. Don't miss it.

Happy Birthday Part II

Reagan celebrated her birthday for the second time over the weekend as mommy and daddy had a party with their friends to celebrate her big day. And believe it or not, she actually ate cake this time. I was shocked, but she enjoyed her chocolate cake. Maybe she is not that strange after all.

Thank you to everyone who came to the party - Bob, Elaine, Crystal, Sara, Becky and Mike. We really appreciate all your support in helping us raise her and be the best parents we can be. Here are some photos from the big day.

Dancing With The Stars - Week 7

Here is my quick summary of Dancing With The Stars last night. Since I had just gotten back into town an hour before it started, I was not paying as close of attention as I normally do, but here is my quick analysis.

Jane has to go tonight. She is extremely beautiful, but the rest of the competition has passed her by. Her dances looked forced and she is barely hanging on. She did look great in that gold dress though. Wow, to look like at age 56. Good for her!

My other disappointment last night was Cameron and Edyta. I did not think they were very good. They might go tonight. If you read my conspiracy theory post from last week, he might be a logical choice. If he goes, then I know my conspiracy theory is true. A side note...of course, this is the only time Andrew stops to watch the show and he says before the first dance, "I hope they have a second dance because she has way too many clothes on in this one." I don't think he was real impressed with outfit number 2 either.

Helio and Julianne were good. They were having fun, although I am not sure what Julianne was wearing in that second dance. She looked like she had moss growing on her chest. She is just so beautiful though that she can pull off the moss...I hate her!

Marie was fine. She is boring to me.

Mel and Maks were good, although I thought their first dance was only OK. I did enjoy the second, although I thought is was a little out of sync. I was surprised they got a 30. I did enjoy watching Maks shake his thing though.

Jennie Garth was very good again. She continues to improve and she is just so beautiful.

Well, we will see what happens tonight. I thought the Sabrina solidairty last night was cute, although it fed into my conspiracy theory plot perfectly. They can all show how outraged they are so people will vote, etc.

Let's be real here, every person left on that show is so happy that Sabrina is off the show. Now they all have a chance to stick around one week longer and maybe even win. Besides...Sabrina got even more out of the show than she bargained for as another Dancing With The Stars romance has blossomed with her and partner Mark Ballas.

Onto the results...

Happy Birthday To Reagan!

Reagan turned 2 last Thursday and the "terrible twos" were not far behind. Although she tells everyone that she is 9 (and sometimes acts like it), she is definitely asserting herself these days and voicing her displeasure when she doesn't get what she wants (which has been more often than not lately).

She had a nice party with Andrew, Great Grandma Jan and Corby, as I was in Florida on a work trip. Great Grandma made dinner for everyone and then they opened presents. Finally, they sang and gave her a birthday apple pie, since Reagan does not like cake. Unfortunately, she did not like pie either. I should have made a cracker and hot dog cake before I left with grapes on top. I know she would have eaten that.

Anyway... here are a few photos from the big day. She received a number of presents including a "color, color, color desk," videos, magnets, blocks, a stuffed Tigger, a princess pillowcase, a puzzle of her name, a purse, clothes and much, much more. She had a really good day. Thank you to everyone who sent her gifts. You will get a thank you letter some day. :)

Sabrina Shocker...Not Really

I am sure people were as shocked as I was tonight when Sabrina was kicked off Dancing With The Stars. I mean she was the best dancer (almost to a fault in that it wasn't fair) and for her to be kicked off so early was just wrong...or was it?

Of course, my negativity is going to come through in this post, so you might not want to read what is below. I truly believe this show is fixed, like American Idol, and this is what really happened last night.

On Monday, they were setting up the audience for Sabrina's departure when they showed how busy she was with her new music video, and the fact the new Cheetah Girls record is coming out soon (just in time for Christmas of course). I honestly think when Sabrina agreed to do the show, she said she was available up through this week. Just like Mark Cuban last week, who was let go because the NBA season starts this week, Sabrina knew her record was going to drop and she was going to have a number of promotional appearances that would prevent her from committing to Dancing the rest of the season (although I will say she is a great actress because she really did look shocked and devastated that she was sent home).

But the "shock" works out great for all parties because Sabrina received 7 weeks of free publicity to promote herself and the Cheetah Girls just in time for their new album, and Dancing With the Stars will get a week's worth of "Can you believe that Sabrina was sent home," publicity, in addition to "fans, you need to vote to keep your favorite stars on the show" (oh yeah, I am sure the show gets a percentage of the texting monies generated from voting each week). The conspiracy theory is in full effect - similar to when Chris Daughtry was voted off American Idol, which in the end was the best thing to happen to him.

That said, I better start looking to see if Helio's (my favorite) Indy car season has another race coming up soon (although he did postpone his wedding to concentrate on Dancing) or when Marie Osmond's Christmas concert tour begins (by the way, she has a Christmas album coming out soon! What a surprise!) or if they are planning to shoot a 90210 reunion in the next couple of weeks so Jennie Garth needs to go.

One thing I was surprised about was that Cameron and Edyta were in the bottom two. Although they continue to say how busy Cameron is (setting up him leaving the show if he or All My Children say he cannot do it anymore - although it's great cross promotion since AMC is on ABC as well), the show cannot afford to have Edyta leave or they will lose the whole new audience of viewers they have captured this year. Andrew always stops what he is doing to see what she isn't wearing and his first question on Tuesday night is "Did she make it?" I am pretty sure he is not asking about Marie Osmond or Jane Seymour.

Speaking of Jane, next week she has got to go. She has been hanging on by a thread all season and with all of the tragedies that have happened to her, you know they can't send her home. Between her mom dying, her house burning to the ground in the fires and then her food poisoning last night, that would be insensitive and bad publicity for the show. But she needs to be careful as she has used three of her nine lives and might use the remaining six next week.

Anyway...I am still addicted and cannot wait until Monday.

Fall Foliage

Just wanted to post some photos of Reagan playing in the leaves this weekend. It was a beautiful weekend and she had a blast throwing the leaves. We do not have many days like that left this fall. The next photos like these will be with mounds of snow in them.

We really did not do much this weekend. Reagan and I went to the Minnesota State High School Tennis Tournament, then we took Corby to the dog park and finally went to a University of Minnesota volleyball match. Notre Dame did not play, so it was a nice relaxing weekend.

Sunday was spent cleaning the house (It was gross) and watching the Vikings. They are terrible.

Anyway...enjoy the photos.

Mark Cuban Says Goodbye

It was a sad night on Dancing With The Stars as Mark Cuban was sent back to Dallas. Actually, I think his contract said he had to go this week, since the Mavericks start next week. Yes, I am saying the show is fixed.

A quick review of Monday night...

Marie Osmond fainting was really scary. I was calling everyone I knew to see if they saw it. That is a definite drawback of live TV. Andrew thought she did it on purpose because her dance wasn't very good and this would be the best way to avoid the bottom two. It worked as she was safe.

The other thing that was quite obvious is they are definitely trying to increase the male audience as the women were wearing next to nothing. Edyta's lack of costume was unbelievable. Andrew says next week she is just going to come out in tassels and a fig leaf since there is not much farther she can go without moving the show to Cinemax late night. Andrew also said he would be watching next week. The show must have also bought out every push-up bra in So Cal because there was not much to the imagination there and the small pieces of cloth covering the backside of the women made the male viewers happy I am sure.

Back to the dancing...I was so sad that Helio and Julianne were not so great. Helio looked like he was trying so hard. I also thought Jennie Garth was not very good this week although she looked absolutely beautiful. Scary Spice was really good and Sabrina the ringer was great again. Jane looked great, but was boring. Cameron was good. It is going to be a tough competition the rest of the way, but Marie and Jane are the next to go. Scary Spice is also on the hot seat, although I think the female viewers will do their best to keep Maks on the show. He is smoking hot!

J-Lo was also great tonight. It is amazing what her stylist can do to make her look not pregnant. Lucky girl....

Here Come The Irish ...

It was a great weekend in South Bend. We were able to see a number of friends including Avani, who was such a gracious host Thursday night. Thank you so much. We ate at all of mom's favorite places including Lula's, Between the Buns and Barnaby's. We went to a hockey game, but Notre Dame lost to #5 Denver 3-1. We tailgated and then came the game...above you can see what Reagan thought of it!

It was ugly. Andrew, Reagan and all of my friends left before halftime. I stayed until 5 minutes to go in the game, although I can say I wasn't really paying attention. The program is an embarrassment right now. I wish the season was over and it was pretty obvious the players did too. The defense worked so hard and got absolutely no help from the offense. How come the offensive genius cannot generate more than 5 first downs? I thought his system worked with any talent level? Obviously not...how hard can it be to complete screen passes and quick slants. I don't care how bad the O-Line is, you still should be able to make those basic plays. Unfortunately for me, I have to see the same thing on Sunday's when I watch the Vikings. Football has been really depressing this year. Basketball cannot start soon enough (did I really say that?).

Anyway...it was a beautiful weekend in South Bend. Here are a few photos from our trip.

This @&#$^@&# Passie!

Reagan would be so pretty if it weren't for this #$#&*$* passie!
Helppppp!

Reagan's Daycare

I just wanted to share some photos from Reagan at daycare. Her provider, Alana, is just great. She has only been doing daycare for a little over a year and has done a nice job with Reagan. She works with Reagan daily on letters and sounds, although she only remembers the letter "H." I really think she remembers more, but "H" is the first thing to come to her head. All I know is Reagan really enjoys herself at daycare, which makes me feel a lot better. Reagan's best friends are also there as she talks about Kylie, Cassie, Alana, Gaga (Alana's mom), Peyton and Zach all of the time. Enjoy the photos! Above: Zach is pushing Reagan and Brooklyn in the front and Peyton and Eddie (the dog) in the back. Kylie is there with her bike helmet on. Below: Cassie helps Reagan wipe her mouth after endulging in chocolate cake.
