US Open Recap

We are back from the US Open and we saw a ton of tennis (I mean a ton) while we were there. The weather was beautiful (hot) the whole time and no rain. If you love tennis, this is the place to be. I love tennis, but it was even too much tennis for me.

The first match we saw was Robby Ginepri (of course) against Marin Cilic on the Grandstand. The Grandstand is really awesome because it is first come-first serve and is so intimate. We were able to get to the second row for this match - which of course made me very happy since Ginepri is my favorite player, and let's be honest, he is smiking hot! Ginepri really should not have been in the match as Cilic is going to be a great player and really dominated, but Robby hung in there and actually choked in forcing the match to a fifth set. He was up 3-0, 4-1 and 5-2 in the fourth and lost the set 7-5. Bummer, but very fun to be able to see him play and to sit so close.

We then watched Rochester's Eric Butorac play mixed doubles with his partner Jill Craybas - which they won. They actually received a wild card into the tournament because they were two Americans playing together. They had never played mixed together, but they played well and actually advacned to the semifinals. Eric and I talk alot via e-mail as he is a great promoter of tennis, but I never had met him in person until after the quarterfinal match. It was cool to see him play so well and I kind of feel like his loss in the semis was my fault as I he had won the three matches I saw him play, but I missed his semis match because I was watching Federer play a five-set marathon. We actually were joking that I need to come to all his matches since I had never seen him lose. Sorry Eric, but blame Roger!

On Saturday, we watched a number of people including Amelie Mauresmo, the Bryan Brothers and Kei Nishakori. He was very fun to watch. On Sunday, we watched a lot of doubles including Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur against the Bondarenko sisters (which Andrew liked because they are hot).

Andrew, Mike, April and Jen left on Monday so I was on my own, On Monday night, I was invited to sit in the President's box and saw Serena play, as well as Andy Murray. The President's box is nice as you are right by the court and you get a nice dinner, but it was a little too much for me. I did like being able to see Serena so close.

Then Tuesday, I went back out again by myself and saw both the Djokovic five-setter and the Federer five-setter. It was the first time I had ever seen Federer play and it was amazing. He did not play great, but when he needed a point or a big serve, he did it. It was pretty awesome. I was in awe as he has to be the coolest person in the world. He is just awesome.

After the match, I had the opportunity to meet Rick Dipietro who is the goalie for the New York Islanders. He was there with a friend on mine that I bumped into. All I kept thinking was how jealous Andrew was going to be. He was really nice for a professional athlete. They are right...hockey players are really awesome.

Oh yeah...I attended some meetings while I was there and then went out to eat at a couple of cool places. We went to Rue 57 for dinner one night and then to Carnegie Deli for cheesecake. Andrew and everyone else then went back to Carnegie Deli for lunch the next day and I guess Andrew finished his whole sandwich which is unheard of. It was ridculous. Mike and April took photos of it so I will add them to the blog when I return.
We head to Spokane tomorrow to reintorduce ourselves to our daughter. Both Andrew and I are so ready to see her. It will be great. I only hope she remembers us.
